As a family operated business with over 40 years experience our success and longevity is founded on candid business relationships, our ability to develop specific user group programming that provide for the needs of the local community and a devotion to aquatic education and athlete development.

Our strategic choice to operate a small number of centres has allowed us to remain debt free and focus all our energy into the establishment of leading edge swimming teaching programs.

Within our 40 years of operations we have developed comprehensive operational manuals; check lists and safety procedures; and program specific marketing plans that can be adapted to local requirements.


In 1989 David Urquhart (in partnership the Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers association developed the ‘Effective swim school management video’ highlighting the successful business principles which are still in use in many centres today.

In the current business environment consumers expect that organisations maintain social and environmentally responsible management practices. ‘DU Swimming’ has developed modern operational manuals and policies which deliver balanced solutions for saving our most precious resource — water, whilst maintaining health and hygiene to Australian Standards. We are also vigilant in our waste management and recycling initiatives.

David Urquhart is a pioneer in capital contribution partnerships with local councils and is a former President of Australian Swimming and has been a board member of;

Our Key Objective is:
To provide the highest quality aquatic centre management and programming services for local governments, schools and private enterprise. This will be acheived via our Business and Operational Objectives;


  • To operate all our facilites to the levels of safety and cleanliness above the levels prescribed by Australain Standards and State Guidelines for public swimming pools/baths operation.
  • Developing our centres into a long-term operation by delivering programs and services which are beneficial to the local community and profitable to the company.
  • To create a focused directional business plan on a yearly basis and promote the products and services of our centres through our esixting customer base, local media, community groups and schools by utiising modern communitactions media.
  • To work towards the our facility being a Centre of Excellence for Competitive Swimming, Surf Life Saving and Triathlon
  • Assist in the co-ordination, promotion and development of the facility’s aquatic clubs.
  • To be seen as a leading provider of Water Awareness, Water Safety, Learn to Swim, and Swimming Technique programmes in SE Queensland
  • Promote personal confidence and self - esteem and enthusiasm for health and fitness through specific user group programming.
  • To constantly develop staff and management to grow our business through exception reputation and service to levels identified as the best in the industry.
  • Make use of industry standard Information Technology and business systems to document, manage and analyse information/finances and have immediate access to this information to implement realistic revenue generation strategies
  • Respond quickly and professionaly to council requests for information and/or monthly reports, specified in the terms of contract and work in partnership will council to achive mutaual goals for the operation of community aquatic centres.
  • Where possible give special consideration to those persons who because of sickness, destitution or other misfortune are in necessitous circumstances and to provide relief to such persons.
  • Provide opportunities for all children and adults with disabilty to learn to swim and undertake the principles of water safety.
  • Provide a diverse range of recreational, educational and fitness activities which are relevant and responsive to community needs.
  • Utilize customer feedback and external analysis for the evaluation of programs in terms of their relevance to local needs,effectiveness and respond to quickly to identified weakness.

On a daily basis our operational priorities are;

To implement documented procedures that maintain the safety of all visitors to the centre (including employees) to the levels prescribed by state or federal governing bodies.
